The Newz is a band of musicians and singers who came together from three different top jazz groups and Sydney's premier acapella group The Café at the Gate of Salvation, to perform No More War in Hyde Park, Sydney at the February 16 anti-war rally. The song was well received by the crowd of over 300,000 people. It is very much a song of the moment. A cd of No More War was submitted to the music committee of the rally organisers who requested it for the rally.
The Newz consists of Virna Sanzone (lead singer); Jo Maunsell, Leanne Heanly and Lisa Spence (backing vocals); Rodric White (keyboards); Tom McElvogue (trumpet); Stephen Ley (drums); Kevin Hailey (double bass); vocal arrangement by Virna Sanzone; music arranger and director Rodric White; words and melody by Emile Morel (guitar).
