The Big Empty

Rock /Pop /Psychedelic

The Big Empty is a three piece from Newcastle; NSW who are tearing up the local scene and blowing their audiences away with their creative and catchy rock/pop/ blues style. Guitarist/ vocalist, Grant 'Joe Holiday' Hanlon, is self taught on guitar and vocals and after 2 years of jamming in his bedroom he took his passion to the stage. He preformed various incarnations for around seven years until the big empty was born. Drummer, Michelle 'Lucy Sugarcube' Ryan, always had a passion for the drums, although her first instrument was actually the violin at age 14. At 17 her desire to play drums became a reality. Lucy had drum lessons for 2 years, then pursued drumming further and studied at The Institute of Music in Sydney (2002). She received a High Distinction for drums and graduated overall with a distinction. Bass guitarist Alan 'Teddybear' Whitehead is first and foremost a drummer. Driven by a teenage obsession with Dave Lombardo's drumming style Alan put his all into learning about drums and rhythm. From then on Alan has continued to expand his musical knowledge and love for rhythm by taking an interest in hand percussion, bass guitar and improvisation.
