The Healing Art

The Healing Art is a three piece rock outfit from Newcastle who have been together since early 2003. The band, fronted by singer, guitarist and songwriter Chad Rogers, has shared the platform with such acts as Magic Dirt, The Superjesus, Waikiki, Skulker and Eskimo Joe.

After signing with Newcastle-based label Reign Records in early 2004 the band headed into 48 Volt Studios to record a six track EP with producers Dave Henderson and Rob Taylor. The EP, titled Soothe, was launched in Newcastle at the Cambridge Hotel on Saturday June 26, 2004 and was released nationally through MGM Distribution in August 2004.

Their track It’s Not A Silly Lovesong, which was an entry in the pop category 2004 Newcastle Music Awards, has recently been heard on JJJ. Their new single ‘Soothe’ is currently on spot rotation on Sydney’s FBi Radio. The band also picked up the Newcastle Band Of The Year at the The Heavenly Noise Anniversary and Awards 2004 which was held on Sunday 26th September at the Annandale Hotel.

Steve Gillespie

Steve was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and came to Australia end of 1985.

Steve hosts nine of his own specially formatted cabaret shows every month comprising of a weekly shows at The Halekulani Bowling Club at Budgewoi, Cessnock Rugby League Supporters Club and Stockton RSL Club and a monthly show at Halekulani. When not working in cabaret Steve works as a solo club act.

Steve has toured with the likes of Frankie Davidson, Lucky Grills, Wally the Worker, and the late Jan Adele, just to name a few.

His show consists of classics from people such as Matt Monroe, Elvis, Nat King Cole, Johnny O’Keefe; and somewhere in his show will be a couple of country numbers. As in the early days of his New Zealand career Steve won many top country awards in that country.

Steve has performed at numerous sydney venues including Bankstown Sports, Canterbury Leagues, Smithfield RSL, Cabravale Ex-Services, Liverpool RSL, Belmore RSL, Ryde-Eastwood Leagues, Auburn RSL. He has also performed at other major clubs throughout NSW and Queensland. Some of the main Newcastle venues have been Phoenix Club, Cardiff Workers, West Leagues, Belmont 16ft Sailing Club, Mayfield RSL.

Bandwidth is Back Again

After the success of Bandwidth in 2003, we decided to do it all over again, this time on 7TH MAY at The Bandroom (Newcastle Leagues Club). Last time Bandwith pulled over 250 people, with 18 bands and the whole night was recorded with one song from each bands bands set, released as an downloadable Mp3 @

This year will have 2 shows UNRESTRICTED (all ages) and RESTRICTED (18+). Once again it will be recorded but this time released on cd with a mutltimedia section containing video footage of the night and interviews with the bands.

Tickets cost $8 for the all ages show, $8 for the Over 18′s show or $10 for both shows. Tickets can only be bought at the door. All proceeds will go towards the production and duplication of the CD/DVD.

Bandwidth is an event designed to promote original music in Newcastle. the whole event is professionally recorded and mixed. With a CD released of the event containing one song from each Band (11 Bands will perform this year) and a multimedia section with will include video footage of the event, the band performances, and interviews with the bands, as well as promo info of the bands.

The event is organised by MAGNETIC NOISE, and sponsered by, Majickal, Sonic Intervention Recording, Ruffneck Promotions, Out there Promotions, and several other local industry organisations.

2005 Newcastle Music Awards

Bigger, brighter and bolder – 1233 ABC Newcastle has raised the bar for this year’s Newcastle Music Awards.

Hunter and Central Coast artists and bands are again given the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Empress, On and Solver and have their original music professionally recorded by the ABC studios in Sydney. The winner will also receive a professional photo shoot and biography to compliment their new recording.

This years entrants can expect a broader range of categories, a streamlined entry kit and an enhanced website design offering more information. Access to airplay across the ABC radio networks.

Entry Kits will be available from April 2005 at the 1233 Studio (Cnr Wood and Parry St Newcastle West), Upper Hunter Studio (36A Brook St Muswellbrook), ABC Shops at Charlestown Square and Erina Fair and on-line at

Entries will be accepted by post or in person at the 1233 ABC Newcastle studio from Monday May 2nd – Friday June 17th 2005.

Judging starts from June 20 and carries on through to August 26, with such a mammoth task ahead we have enlisted the help of over 170 Music industry experts Australia wide. At this early stage the finalist judging panels will include Maya Jupiter (Triple J), Black Market Music, ABC Music, Georgia Clark (editor of The Brag) with many, many more to be announced in coming weeks.
