Newcastle Music Week 2005 Program

The Newcastle Permanent A Major Music Expo (27/10/05)

A smorgasboard of musical information will be served up at Newcastle City Hall on Thursday October 27 as Newcastle Music Week brings professionals from all around Australia to the city to share their knowledge and expertise. Seminars and workshops will be running all day and there will be demonstrations by major music retailers and companies with hands on opportunities in EXPO Hall.

Workshops will be conducted by music icons such as Renee Geyer, Bob Spencer, Tyrone Noonan, Tony Mott. Representatives from Chugg Entertainment, Foghorn Records, Shock Records, AMO, Moneypenny and other music industry organisations will be panelists on the seminars.

This year sees the inclusion of a listening seminar with bands invited to submit their demos. Five will be randomly selected to be critiqued by a listening panel made up of A and R reps, booking agents, publishers etc who will offer advice on what the pros are looking for.

The Great Salsa Circus (27/10/05)

James Street Plaza will be the place to be for all Latino lovers on Thursday October 27. As part of Newcastle Music Week, you can put on your dancing shoes and show off your dancing skills to the sounds of The Runaway Circus Band, Gian and Saxanova. Latin and ballroom dancing is enjoying a huge resurgence nationally and this free, family oriented, entertaining night means you can join the hip swerving, tangoing crowd on the dance floor or observe from the sidelines, while taking in the delicious smells emanating from the nearby restaurants and cafes.

Expose Yourself Grand Final Reels in the National Experts (28/10/05)

Newcastle Music Week will culminate in a grand finale at the iconic Civic Theatre Newcastle on Friday October 28. The Newcastle Music Week Expose Yourself Grand Finale sponsored by Coca-Cola was designed to showcase the city’s talent to the National Music Industry reps. And what a night we’re all in for.

Starting at 7:30pm, the night will open with four of the best Let There Be School Rock Band performers, followed by four of the hottest, local original bands. The event will be headlined by Ben Gillies band Tambalane and there’s a special performance by Tyrone Noonan from george and Palimpsest. A fashion extravaganza and heaps of lucky door prizes – autographed stuff, cds etc – will make sure the night is fast and fun filled. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night or before the event from Ticketek for $16 or $10 for concession/children. Ticket price includes GST and Booking Fee. Book at the Civic Theatre Box Office, any Ticketek outlet, or call 4929 1977. For internet bookings go to www.civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.

The national music industry reps will be there – make sure you’re there too. Who knows, you could say your were at the Civic Theatre Newcastle when they discovered the NEXT big thing to come out of NEWIE.
