Expose Yourself In The Newcastle Music Week 2006 Industry Showcase

Newcastle Music Week has opened yet another door of opportunity to local original artists. The Newcastle Music Week Industry Showcase will pick up where the Expose Yourself Band Competition left off. Organiser Christina Sykiotis said that the event was trying very hard to separate itself from the controversy and stigma surrounding band competitions. “We are now hoping to offer local musicians more exposure to national industry reps”.

All entries, provided they pass a quality control test, will be sent to appropriate music organisations in Sydney and Melbourne for initial judging. The best 32 acts will then be selected to play at the Cambridge Hotel, with a chance of progressing to the Industry Showcase Finale at the Civic Theatre Newcastle. The final four acts progressing to the Finale will be selected then judged by National Music Industry Professionals.

Newcastle Music Week 2006Newcastle Music Week will still be offering a valuable prize pool, supported by local music businesses but the real gain is that even if acts don’t make the Finale, they have still had their music heard by those in the know. As past experience often shows, entering and showcasing talent may be all that is needed to get you noticed. Acts progressing to the next stage of the Showcase will also be recorded and a compilation album will be distributed to National Music Industry companies and associations.

“This whole exercise is to show the National Music Industry that Newcastle is a major music player. In order to do that we need to make sure that the best acts are involved with the Industry Showcase” Sykiotis said. Several chances at national exposure, a chance to play at the prestigious Civic Theatre Newcastle and an inviting prize pool are surely enough to encourage our best local musicians.

The NMW 2006 Industry Showcase is open to acts of any genre and entry forms are available on this site, at www.newcastlemusicweek.com, from local music businesses or by phoning Newcastle Music Week on 49 237841.
