Newcastle Music Week Industry Showcase Entries Closing Soon

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

If you’re musical and original you are surely putting the finishing touches to your entry in the Coca Cola Newcastle Music Week Industry Showcase. Craig Spencer, from Indie label Shock Records, believes the Showcase is an “awesome chance to check out the Newcastle music scene”.

Showcase entries will be going straight to EMI, Universal Music, Michael Chugg Entertainment, Warner Music, Premier Harbour Agency and other notable players in the National Music Industry scene. These experts will then select the 32 bands that will perform at the home of local original music, the Cambridge Hotel with a chance of playing at the prestigious Civic Theatre Newcastle in November. Dorry Kartabani from Premier Harbour Agency believes the showcase “is a fantastic opportunity and breeding ground for young talent”.

The National Music Industry pros will be on hand to judge the semi-finals and the grand finale. “This is AAA, first class access to those in the know” said local musician Ian Dunn (Fish Fry) and teacher at the Music Centre, TAFE. “And to be able to offer local original act a personal consultation with Michael Chugg is what makes the Showcase unique”.

The opportunities offered by Newcastle Music Week Industry Showcase are many, from the multiple exposure of our local talent to the National Industry, to performing at an elite venue like the Civic Theatre Newcastle, to the prize pool worth over $10k. “We want to provide a showcase for up and coming local acts” said Dunn.

Newcastle Music Week Industry Showcase is supported by the Music Centre at TAFE, a multitude of local businesses and music experts such as internationally acclaimed singer Renee Geyer “This Music Week … is an extraordinary opportunity for young musicians”. In times where bands need top be solicited (interpreted as ‘known in the industry’) to even have a chance of having their demo heard, local muso’s have been handed a prime opportunity to get a foot through a musical door.
