Shootout Music Library

Music Needed for the Shootout Film Festival Music Library

If you are not already aware the Shoot Out Film Festival will be held again this year from Friday 6th – Sunday 8th July 2007. The event started in 2000 and in 2001 the Music Library was introduced as a new service for the film makers. Now the library is in it’s 7th year the event is looking to bring more profile to the music by incorporating live performance nights, weekly editorial and radio support leading up to the event.

Each year the number of local songwriters/bands who submit product to the library increases. Last year over 50 songwriters/bands from which filmmakers could choose an appropriate piece of music for their film.

The Shootout Music LibraryOnce again the call is out for Newcastle and the Hunter Region’s songwriters/bands to submit their recordings to the Music Library. Any style; Jazz, Classical, Pop, Country, Techno/Dance, Instrumental, World, New Age, Folk, Rock, Punk etc will be accepted.

The filmmakers who do not use the Shoot Out’s dubbing facilities will still have access to the Music Library. Each year the Apple Centre kindly donates an Apple Mac computer to the Music Library. This means if there is a track the filmmaker wishes to use on their film they may burn the track to CD for a small fee. From this fee the songwriters/bands receive 80% of the fee. The filmmakers will then add the track to their film when they do their own dubbing. All artists are named in the filmmaker’s credits at the end of their film. Artists who submit music to the library have the choice of declining or accepting this option.

Artists who have submitted music to the library in previous years will need to sign another release form for 2007. If you have not been involved with the library before we will need you to sign a release form giving the library permission to let filmmakers use your material and to have you music played on MySpace. All forms will be available on the official website or they can be sent to you via email, fax, mail or pick up. Artists will be required to submit two CDs and any promo material ie Bio, posters, fliers. The deadline for submissions into the Music Library is Friday 22nd June 2007.

In 2007 the The Shootout Music Library a higher profile than it has had in previous years. In 2007 gigs will be held at the Beach Hotel on a Thursday nights and NEW FM will help promote the library by playing samples of the songs on air and possible interviews.
