Get Rocked All Ages Event

Get Rocked at Cardiff Panthers on Saturday 28th April 2007 with a quality line up of Newcastle and the Central Coast’s finest rock outfits.

The bands will perform from 3.30pm-11pm and will feature Level 8, Light Noise, The Wireflys, Waterview, Emetic, Undermine, Nothing Days and City Streets.

The show is about exposing the finest talent to the Australian music industry through promotion and live performances.

So get along and show your support for Newcastle’s original artists as they need your support to help put the region back on the map.

One Proud Monkey Digital Distribution

OPM Digital iTunesNewcastle based musician Clinton Hoy has recently returned from several years of overseas travel to begin studying at the University of Newcastle. He is also in the early stages of putting together a new Newcastle based eLabel called One Proud Monkey Digital Distribution.

OPM DigitalClinton plans to make the iTunes marketplace more accessible by bringing together local musicians. “iTunes and the other online stores won’t take independent artists seriously if they approach one at a time”, Clinton says, “I have come up with a plan to form a loose collective which will benefit all involved”. Clinton is preparing to put forward a proposal that will allow One Proud Monkey to digitally distribute music through iTunes. He requires twenty products (singles, EPs or albums) for the next step. Prior to his overseas travels, Clinton was active in the local music scene. In 2004 he released many of his songs on Listen to these tracks at Clinton currently performs in Hey Crabman, a duo featuring vocalist Aaron Hunt. Aaron and Clinton met in London in early 2006 and were soon performing original music at a series of venues across London culminating in a gig at Progress Bar, Tufnell Park, London on the 26th of April 2006. Cultural Stomp Music Workshops

Newcastle’s annual festival celebrating cultural diversity & unity, Cultural Stomp, is hosting a series of free music workshops to enhance cross cultural collaboration and unity through the arts. The workshops are funded through the Festivals Australia initiative, an Australian Government program which supports cultural activity at regional and community festivals.

Several workshops will be held in the weeks leading up to this year’s STOMP festival, which is to be held in Civic Park Newcastle on Saturday May 19th. The free music and dance workshops are being conducted by a trio of accomplished Newcastle musicians and are intended to culminate in a ceremonial style performance at dusk on the day of the festival.

Afro MosesAfter completing a recent overseas tour, African musician Afro Moses is back to share his passion and energy for West African singing, drumming & percussion through a series of workshops which are set to include wind and brass accompaniment. Moses will be hosting these collaborative classes at Hamilton Bowling Club on Wednesdays between 11th April and 19th May, from 7 – 9pm. Mike Burns (Mus B, Dip Ed, MA) has been playing, composing, building instruments, researching and teaching for over thirty years throughout Australia. He has created pieces for national and international festivals, released two CDS, written for films, choirs, opera, jazz and rock bands and performed puppet shows. In addition, he plays guitar, mandolin, harp, banjo, sitar, sarod, baglama, flute, mbira and far too many Indonesian instruments to list.

Mike Burns - GamalanBurns will be conducting three separate workshop series’, involving Indonesian music and bamboo instruments, which will be held at 401 Hunter St, Newcastle between Monday April 23rd and Friday May 18th. Slendro Gamelan will be held on Mondays from 7:30 – 9:30pm and will allow students to learn a contemplative style of performance, with parts from simple to complex; Pelog Gamelan on Fridays from 5pm – 7pm, will involve tunings that are highly oriental moving from contemplative to dynamic and Bamboo Instruments on Sundays from 10:30am – 12:30pm, will involve traditional and diatonic angklung instruments and percussive use of bamboo and jaw harps. Benjie Williams, from ‘Earthen Rhythms’ will also be holding a series of workshops which he refers to as Bambootiful Dance. Centred around unified dance and drumming, these workshops will incorporate African, Pacific Islander and modern dance as well as African drumming and unique bamboo percussion. Classes run on Saturdays 2-4pm at 401 Hunter St, Newcastle beginning on Saturday 14th April and anyone interested in attending should contact Benjie directly on 0407 177 564 or

St Phillips College Fundraising Evening

St Philips Christian College Cessnock is holding a dinner/dance/auction/band night to raise funds for a library.

Live and silent auctions will be helt to facilitate the fundraising. Items up for auction on the night include a Fender guitar signed by U2 and many items signed by musicians such as Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue.

Sydney based band The Doomesday Preachers will be performing on the night.

If people can’t attend on the night but would still like to make a bid on the live auction maxium bids can be placed at a cost of $1.00 per bid without attending.
