Dirty Dicks Theatre Restaurant

Dirty Dick'sDirty Dick’s Theatre Restaurant is looking for a male acoustic guitarist and singer. Dirty Dick’s is Australia’s longest established Theatre Restaurant. It presents its shows, on a seasonal basis, in selected Newcastle and Central Coast venues.

Dirty Dick’s shows are fully scripted stage shows with a Medieval/Old English theme. The show comprises 4 performers, two of which are Minstrels (Acoustic guitarists/singers). These minstrels are male and can be of any age. During a particular season, the same show is performed each playing night.

The shows are fully rehearsed. Notation reading is not necessary. A person with a good singing voice, competent guitar playing, bright personality and sense of fun is important.

The show currently requires a “Minstrel” for their 2007 end of year season.

Playing dates for shows are:

  • November 10, 17, 23, 24, 30
  • December 1, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 21, 22

Show starts 7pm and finishes 10.30pm. Fee per show $140.

Jason Lowe

Jason LoweNewcastle based singer/songwriter Jason Lowe has released a new track titled “How We Let It Be” has just been getting into the rotations of Roots and All and Home and Hosed on Triple J.

Following on from his track “Faith” before it which got to number 1 in the roots chart and number 9 in the overall 100.

Jason launched his debut EP “Before We Chase The Sky” at the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel on the 25th of July supported by special guests Amy Vee and Daniel March. Jason will be touring Melbourne throughout the rest of August to promote his new EP and will be playing a steady stream of local gigs throughout September and beyond.

Record Number of Music Awards Entries

The 1233 ABC Newcastle Music Awards has attracted a record amount of entries this year, from original Hunter and Central Coast musicians.

Now in its 6th year the project continues to encourage, support and recognise local talent.

By the time entries closed on Friday, June 29, event organisers had counted 465 original songs across a dozen genres. As with the previous five years of the competition, individual entrants were limited to three original tracks each, demonstrating the depth of musical talent in the region.

There was a strong showing in the country, alternative and rock genres, while this year the instrumental and folk categories saw twice as many entries compared to 2006.

The judging process will now run for five weeks at a local level before category finalists are sent out to music industry experts Australia wide.

In addition to winning a genre category awards, entrants are in the running to win:

  • ABC Music Best Artist Award (A six track EP which is recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by ABC Music)
  • ABC Music Publishing and APRA Songwriters and Composers Recognition Award ($1000.00 cash prize provided)
  • A variety of specialist awards (including Best Male & Female Vocals, Best Young Talent, Listeners’ Choice and Hunter & Central Coast Broadcasters’ Choice)

1233 ABC Newcastle is now playing music award entries on the locally-produced breakfast, morning, dayshift and drive programs each day of the week. Maynard’s Music Hunter program features interviews with the entrants, and is available as a weekly podcast.

Winners will be announced during at the Civic Theatre Newcastle, Friday 19 October 2007, which includes a concert featuring local and national talent.
