Level 8 Reveal a Softer Side

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Level 8One of Newcastle’s hardest and heaviest bands has embarked on a new direction, albeit temporarily. The noise merchants that are Level 8 have surprised many by stepping out of their usual comfort zone and announcing a special one-off acoustic show at the Northern Star Hotel this May.

While an acoustic show might seem a little out of the ordinary for a band better known for tearing up stages alongside acts like Mammal, Full Scale & Dead Letter Circus, the band’s bass player Ben Rudder offers an alternative viewpoint. “We believe in the adage that a well written song can be adapted to any style and if a ‘heavy’ song can’t be played acoustically than it probably isn’t that good a song”.

“We put a lot of ourselves into the content of the songs and with the stripped back versions it becomes more evident how much feeling and emotion hide behind the wall of sound”.

Rudder has also promised a few more surprises for the show claiming there will be some special guests accompanying the band during their set. The band will also be supported by A Little Piece of Me, the side project for one of the finest vocal talents in Newcastle, Amathyst frontwoman Renee.

Level 8 will perform ‘unplugged’ at the Northern Star Hotel on May 1 but will turn it up to 11 when they support The Screaming Jets at Maitland’s Hunter Valley Brewery on May 29.
