Global Battle of the Bands Newcastle Heats

THE GLOBAL BATTLE OF THE BANDS is the world’s biggest band competition and is all about real bands playing their own songs, LIVE!

Global Battle of the BandsIf you are an original band and can show you have what it takes live on stage, here’s your chance to win a first prize worth US$100,000 and a special gold ‘Best New Band in the World’ statuette!

GBOB involves 36 countries, and is open to all ages and all genres. Every year Local Qualifying Heats, Regional and National Finals take place around the world, with the winners of these going forward to World Final.

Newcastle will host a Local Heat at the Great Northern Hotel in July. The top three bands that succeed in this Heat will move on to the Regional Finals, and then the Australasian Final! If the judges give them the nod on that huge night, the band will find themselves on a plane to Kuala Lumpur in December!

The bands this year have big shoes to fill if they want to walk in the footsteps of 2008′s Newcastle winners, Powerage, who went on to win the Australian National Final, and were flown to London for the World Final. The boys loved the opportunity to represent our nation, and did us proud by coming second out of 36 competing bands, just missing out on the US$100,000 grand prize!

Every band that enters GBOB 2010 will automatically win a fantastic goodie bag from Ernie Ball, containing guitar straps, strings and other great stuff! Other prizes to be won along the way include products from our sponsors such as FujiFilm digital cameras, Converse Chuck Taylor shoes, Ernie Ball gear, MusicMan guitars, as well as Hiwatt and Mark Bass amps.
