New Beginnings Festival 2011New Beginnings – rebirth, awakening, evolution, metamorphosis

New Beginnings is a 2-day camping music festival happening in Lake Macquarie in January 2011. Get set to party with some of Australia’s leading acts as well as the best emerging performers coming out of the local region across four stages over two days & nights.

New Beginnings aim is clear – to offer something previously unseen to music lovers of the Hunter and Central Coast.

New Beginnings sets itself apart from other festivals in Australia by offering an affordable ticket price that makes the event accessible to punters yet, with a limited capacity, offering a more relaxed and enjoyable environment to celebrate with friends new and old.

Festival organiser’s announce “There are so many festivals in Australia at the moment; the market is completely saturated with large, corporate events with high ticket & drink prices. We wanted to create an event which is affordable for all – to provide some of the best party bands touring around the country, but also give the amazing talent coming out of local region a chance to showcase their stuff on a big stage. The event is basically a big party over the two days, but with a small capacity, it’s going to be very relaxed”.

New Beginnings is set to have over 80 acts performing in the southern edge of Lake Macquarie on the 15th & 16th of January 2011. The first batch of acts has just been announced:

BluejuiceBLUEJUICE

The awarding winning and chart-topping BLUEJUICE are an aggressive mix of pop, rock, hip hop, electro and disco, Bluejuice are in their element making you dance in a retarded, unselfconscious way. The combination of drums, bass and keys and two harmonizing singers sounds unique, but it’s the violence, energy and humour with which the band attack their music that makes them stand out. Their single ‘Broken Leg’ sums up the attitude at work – cathartic and silly, emotionally complicated, mental and sweaty. Bluejuice turn entertainment into a contact sport.

HOOK N SLING

What do Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Guetta, Cox, Kaskade, Oakenfold & Morillo have in common? They all love Private Jets & Hook N Sling. Ministry of Sound’s HOOK N SLING to no foreign to the Australian Dance Charts and world festival circuit. There is no denying that the eyes and ears of the worlds dance music fraternity are focussed firmly on Hook N Sling in 2010.

THE HOLIDAYS

Charting in Australia and the UK, Triple J favourite THE HOLIDAYS have just released their debut album, Post Paradise, may have been a long time coming, but it has categorically been worth the wait. The first two singles, Moonlight Hours and Golden Sky, hinted at the exciting musical re-birth this band has taken over the past 18 months, yet do not exclusively define the depths of this blissful musical journey.

TIMMY TRUMPET

Voted #10 in the InTheMix Top 50 DJ Competition. Fresh from mixing the 2010 PACHA CD featuring his own ARIA chart smash hit ‘Sunrise’, TIMMY TRUMPET is currently touring Australia before he ventures back overseas to promote his new EP. Aside from his multiple worldwide tours, including performances at IBIZA’S PACHA and LONDON’S MINISTRY OF SOUND, Timmy is the only DJ / Instrumentalist to make the ITM Top 10 DJs Australia wide, which has landed him residencies at clubs and festivals all over Australia including SENSATION WHITE, GOOD VIBRATIONS, SUMMAFIELDAYZE, FUTURE MUSIC and PARK LIFE.

CANYONS

MODULAR’s Ryan Grieve and Leo Thomons who record as CANYONS are striking the elusive balance between creativity, originality and pop sensibility, Canyons have just unveiled the first taste from their debut album (due 2011) in the form of the new single, “My Rescue”. With an aural likeness to elements of psych, folk, house and everything deep, what is essential to Canyons is that their music evokes a sense of feeling and truth, Ruth. Close your eyes, feel the sun on your face and prepare yourselves for the sonic vision that is Canyons.

Chrome Bison Stampedes Again

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Bassline Projects PresentsChrome Bison is stampeding again! The cause is unsure, but the direction is clear. The herd is heading towards the Hamilton Station Hotel, and will hit the stage this Saturday, the 9th of October, around about 9:30 p.m. No-one knows what the strange beast’s performance will bring; perhaps men in drag, perhaps spontaneous combustion, but titillating storytelling and hearty, awesome music are guaranteed.

Accompanying the troupe this night will be The Phat Controller, asserting his dominance over the Station that he controls. Straight from the Central Coast and not stopping for anyone without a ticket, The Phat Controller will blow the mind of anyone on his ride. Ladies, be sure to stand behind the yellow line, and keep your Fruity Lexia out of sight. Chicks want him, guys want to be him, and anyone who misses his show will feel a void grow deep in their soul, a hole that nothing else will be able to fill. He is hip, he is hop and he is hilarious.

Chrome is Silver, The Phat Controller is a Goon. They may have crude taste, but for just $6 entry they’re sure to be a Sack of fun at the Hamilton Station Hotel this Saturday night. Doors open at 9:30 p.m., over 18′s only. BYO Hills Hoist.

This is an over 18′s event presented by Bassline Projects.

Blues Benefit Show

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Annie O'DeeNewcastle’s Blues music community were recently saddened to hear of the loss of one of its shining stars, Tony Coughlin. Tony’s role as bass player in blues outfits The Big Red Rockets and Annie O’Dee & the Hotshots saw Tony become a stalwart in blues scene and his talent and enthusiasm for music will be sorely missed. Tony’s performance history saw him perform on stages large and small, and countless punters would have danced away an evening driven by his thumping groove.

In a show of solidarity for their friend, colleague and companion a special afternoon and evening of entertainment has been planned, with musical tributes coming from Ngariki and Flash Sheedy & the Instro-Matics in the Wickham Park Hotel’s Beer Garden. In what will be an especially touching homage, two of Tony’s former bands, Annie O’Dee & the Hotshots and The Big Red Rockets, will also perform on the night in the hotel’s front bar. While entry to the event at The Wickham Park Hotel is free, attendees will be asked to dig deep and donate, with all funds raised going toward assisting the family that Tony left behind.

Newcastle musicians and music goers alike are encouraged to attend and show support for a kindred soul.
