Newcastle’s Blues music community were recently saddened to hear of the loss of one of its shining stars, Tony Coughlin. Tony’s role as bass player in blues outfits The Big Red Rockets and Annie O’Dee & the Hotshots saw Tony become a stalwart in blues scene and his talent and enthusiasm for music will be sorely missed. Tony’s performance history saw him perform on stages large and small, and countless punters would have danced away an evening driven by his thumping groove.
In a show of solidarity for their friend, colleague and companion a special afternoon and evening of entertainment has been planned, with musical tributes coming from Ngariki and Flash Sheedy & the Instro-Matics in the Wickham Park Hotel’s Beer Garden. In what will be an especially touching homage, two of Tony’s former bands, Annie O’Dee & the Hotshots and The Big Red Rockets, will also perform on the night in the hotel’s front bar. While entry to the event at The Wickham Park Hotel is free, attendees will be asked to dig deep and donate, with all funds raised going toward assisting the family that Tony left behind.
Newcastle musicians and music goers alike are encouraged to attend and show support for a kindred soul.
