Over the past 2 years songwriting has taken a back seat whilst Sam Levick has been playing drums professionally as a session drummer. Playing with artists such as, Ricki Lee (Aus Idol), Tim McArtney, Phonic, Brown’s Lane, benjalu, and currently James Johnston (Aus idol 09). He spent 8 months touring with Newcastle band Benjalu on the back of their 2nd EP release. Since returning from tour Sam has had many musical influences and it has made his creative mind kick into gear. At the end of January Sam had already written 8 tracks and by the end of July had 22 tracks in which to cull down for his debut EP. One of the tracks written was entered into the National Youth Week “Rock It” songwriting competition in which he gained 3rd place out of thousands of entrants.
Since early July Sam has been recording his debut EP ‘Choices’. The EP will feature 5 tracks which he has written in 2010. Other than showcasing his own talent playing drums the EP features guest appearances from some Newcastle’s other talented young musicians playing guitar, bass and providing the main vocals.
To coincide with the EP’s worldwide releases on iTunes (28th Oct) Sam and his band will be launching the EP with a live show at The Northern Star Hotel, Beaumont St, Hamilton on November 6th. He will be supported by talented soloists Kaylah Anne and Scott Gelzinnis.
